Johanna Nicholls, Programme Lead

Johanna has spent over two decades managing complex, people-centred projects across the cultural, charitable and community sectors – from creative productions at institutions including the National Theatre to capital development, community-led building and organisational change.

She has played a key role in two of Bristol’s largest community-led housing projects – serving as Senior Project Manager on a 33-home eco-housing development, and on the mixed-use phase of award-winning self-build project The Yard in St Werburghs, including the launch of new community-based business spaces. She knows what it takes to hold together ambitious, multi-stakeholder projects where the community is not just the beneficiary but an active part of delivery.

James Perrott, Business Lead and Director

James helps social enterprises, small businesses, and community organisations build the sustainable foundations and permanent roots they need to stay at the heart of their communities. His work sits at the intersection of strategy, finance, operations, and property, where he specialises in turning organisational uncertainty into long-term resilience.

Having played a key role in securing and financing permanent homes for Bristol landmarks – including the Bristol Wood Recycling Project and The Bristol Bike Project – James has now turned his focus to Bedminster. He understands first-hand how stable, community-led premises allow teams to truly flourish, and he is dedicated to ensuring Bedminster Works provides that essential anchor for the local community.

Sophie Pritchard, Programme Coordinator

Sophie has worked in the charity sector for over 20 years and has extensive experience in participatory, community-led decision-making in the funding world. She has a strong belief that decisions should be made by the communities affected by them and in redistributing resources to tackle inequality.

Community Panel

Our community panel is a group of 12 local people who shape our work by helping to assess whether projects reflect local needs, particularly in terms of addressing disadvantage, considering community impacts and risks of proposed projects and bringing in local insight as extra eyes and ears on the ground.
